Self-Mirroring Twins is a JST CREST project that studies the science and technology needed to help people notice, choose, and change their behavior autonomously through coexistence with an “other self” that reflects the user.
Our Goal
Rather than having AI and robots make decisions on people’s behalf, we support lifestyle improvement, rehabilitation, and greater self-efficacy by creating opportunities for users to reflect on themselves.
Reflect the Person
We build SeMTs that reflect the user by capturing everyday behavior, physical condition, and internal states.
Support Autonomy
Instead of giving one-way instructions, SeMT combines empathy with different perspectives to support self-directed behavior change.
Connect to Society
Alongside technology development, we study ethics, social acceptance, and institutional design to enable responsible implementation.
